Gov. Josh Green has announced a vehicle replacement program that will allow survivors of the Maui wildfires the option to purchase rental cars.
The governor has worked with Avis Budget Car Rental, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Hertz to make additional vehicles available for purchase, according to a news release from the Governor’s Office on Tuesday. Interested individuals can visit hertzcarsales.com or reach out to any local Maui automobile dealership for more details on Avis Budget or Enterprise cars.
“With the Hawai’i Fire Relief Housing Program up and running to meet the immediate housing needs of those affected by the Maui wildfires, we’re highlighting another priority need — transportation,” Green said.
The Governor’s Office encouraged wildfire survivors to call their insurance company or agent if their car was damaged or destroyed. Those with comprehensive coverage, also known as “other than collision,” on their automobile policy can submit a claim for any fire or storm damage to their vehicle.
Filing a comprehensive claim as quickly as possible is recommended so residents can use their claim proceeds to purchase a replacement vehicle from a car dealer, a private seller or from the recently released pool of rental cars, the Governor’s Office said.
