Goal
The goal of the game is to arrange the cards in 4 columns of 13 cards each, of the same suit and in descending order from King to Ace.
Layout & deal
There are 7 tableau piles which are dealt 7 cards each. The bottom 3 cards in the first 4 piles are face-down, all other cards are face-up. The remaining 3 cards form the stock.
Allowable moves
- Tableau is built down by rank and in the same suit.
- Any face-up card in the tableau can be moved, the cards on top don't matter and don't have to be ordered. All cards on top of the moving card will be moved with it as a unit.
- Face-down cards in the tableau which get exposed are flipped automatically.
- Only a King (or a group of cards starting with a King) can be placed on an empty tableau column.
- Click the stock to deal an additional, final set of 3 face-up cards, one to each of the first 3 tableau piles.
Strategy
- Expose face-down cards: Try to uncover the face-down cards to bring them into play.
- Be careful with aces: Once you expose an ace you cannot put any card on top of it, essentially blocking a column from being used.
- Reverse sequences: Don’t make reverse sequences (e.g. a 9 of Hearts on top of an 8 of Hearts) because it will be very difficult to ever uncover the bottom card again.
Variants
Wasp Solitaire follows the exact same rules as Scorpion Solitaire except that it allows to place any card on an empty column, not just a King. This makes Wasp Solitaire an easier variation of Scorpion. You can also try double scorpion solitaire, an easier variation with two decks of cards. Creating in-suit sequences from King to Ace in the tableau is similar to Spider Solitaire and Golden Spider Solitaire.
